Great, that you value the classic masterplayers! In my opinion these games are far more beautiful than nowadays Go. I would love to see more games from Dosaku, Jowa, Shuei, Huang Longshi and Go Seigen : )

Hi SoDesuNe, there are some really nice games from those ancient times. But that's no coincidence. Many or most of those games were staged in order to create master pieces. Especially those that were played in front of a patron. That doesn't take away the beauty of the moves, though :)

Charlie, I'm afraid you're completely wrong. The reason for master pieces is because the 'master' players have a long, long time to think. If you're thinking about the games played in front of the shogun then... the majority of those games were played beforehand and then replayed in his presence. (since those games could take a whole day, or sometimes several days. All the games labelled 'masterpiece' are real games and not staged bs. I know of two staged ancient chinese 'games'. They are beautiful whole board seki games, they are not called masterpieces because they are contrived. All the masterpieces, like Dosaku's game or Huang Longshi's game of blood and tears, or the blood vomiting game with Jowa's 3 ghost moves or shusaku's masterpiece with the ear-reddening move...are all real. Those games are all real man. Why the hell would you say they are contrived? lol.
