It's obvious that the so called "empty triangle" at 17:22 doesn't work because it's not really empty! there are stones filling the "empty" spaces. In fact, it's destroying white's already existing empty triangle there, so, of course such a horrible move, removing his own wonderful empty triangle, would be bad for white :) Of course, had this move created one, it would have been correct!
