Creativity

In previous episodes we have been showing fixed patterns and josekis. However we would like to stress the point that you have to play the moves that make you feel best. We are all amateurs and we play this game for fun, so play the moves you think are most fun and interesting! Level: 30k to 7d

Last night, inspired by this episode, I played a capricious opening as white in one of my across-the-board games. I gave black two handicap-stones and played my first move at tengen. The rest of my game was shaped by a desire to derive value from my unusual opening stones. I won by resignation but, truthfully, the game was so much fun I wouldn't have cared had I lost. Thank you, thank you. A fellow player at the club has mentioned this game (http://www.sagoclubs.co.za/wp-content/RoseDuke7d-Yahata6p.sgf) between Victor Chow, top amateur in South Africa, and "Yahata" (presumably Yahata Koichi 6 dan pro) as an example of an interesting opening, several times. Peter and Kim, please review it!

Stephen, thanks for sharing that story! Unfortunately your comment was marked as spam, so it was not shown immediately, sorry about that. The game looks interesting with a lot of complicated fighting. We will for sure check if we have anything useful to say about it!
